May 2017 News

July 1, 2017, 10 AM to 5 PM, Reflection Plaza

The “Washougal Conversation Board” launch is scheduled for Saturday, July 1st from 10 AM to 5 PM and is a free event open to the public. Located at Reflection Plaza in downtown Washougal, Washington, the event will include a pop-up picnic park. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chairs, picnic blankets, musical instruments, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages to the event. Make Reflection Plaza your own personal park for the day!

The art installation will be the centerpiece of the layout, accessible to all. Guests will be encouraged to add their responses throughout the entire day. Live music and a public open mic jam session will set the mood. A picnic basket will be raffled off to attendees of the event featuring a Pendleton blanket, OurBar restaurant gift certificate, and locally sourced treats, with a value of over $150.

An update from Alex Yost of OurBar.

Local Students Begin Artwork on Columns

"I first met with three Excelsior students in the WHS art room on Thursday 5/11 to introduce myself and propose our art project for the three WRT core value columns.

We have stayed in contact via email since then - students were prompted to review the WRT website for inspiration and brainstorm ideas about how to visually represents each of the three core values - people, sustainability, innovation. Students were also asked to help spread the word and share the project with friends and classmates. One student is head of the art club and plans to rally her fellow artists for this project.

Our next meeting was after school in the WHS art room on Tues 5/23 to bring all the student's ideas to the table, collaborate on a design for each column and set up our final one to two work sessions where we will be painting the actual columns.

A big thanks to Barb Seaman (Excelsior counselor) and Evan Rumble (WHS art teacher) - they're the ones pulling all the strings behind the scenes and the main reason we were able to get this project up and running with student participation."

A few fun photos of Alex's time with the students…

Art Installation Greeter - Two-Hour Volunteer Spots Available!

Have you been wanting to volunteer for Washougal Round Table but not sure how or when? Now's the time!

We need volunteers that would be willing to help staff our summer art installation board. Shifts are easy, 2-hour increments on Saturdays between the hours of 10 AM and 5 PM at Reflection Plaza, downtown Washougal.

What to Expect, Before

Each volunteer will have a primary point of contact to work with, Kathy and Dan Huntington. You'll receive a form to record your hours, which helps our organization achieve our non-profit status.

We'll also give you an informational flier that outlines the details of your job as a greeter for our art installation and the background story on the project.

What to Expect, During

A Washougal Round Table development committee member will be setting up and breaking down the site each day at Reflection Plaza. Your first job is to arrive on time and ready to be friendly with your fellow Washouglians!

Greet each person that is interested in the art installation and encourage them to participate by writing their ideas on the board.

For individuals who have questions, you'll have a business card you can hand out so they can contact Washougal Round Table directly.

What to Expect, After

Beyond our thanks and on-going gratitude, we'll make sure that you receive a copy of the final report. Distribution of the report is going to local agencies, published online, and sent out to our newsletter database. Your name will be included as one of the amazing volunteers who helped to make this project possible!
